Day 2 with Delanie
It's Day 2 and Delanie is doing great! She spent part of last night in the nursery, which gave us 5 hours of sleep. So we're a little bit more rested, although still very very tired. Delanie is simply amazing. She's spent the day getting some good meals and some good naps. She's still learning how to nurse (which has been a little difficult at times), but she's doing ok with it so far. She got to meet her maternal grandmother today, which was exciting. And she should be going home tomorrow. We will keep everyone posted on how she is doing!!!

Delanie's First 24 Hours
Well, our little girl's first day was a real learning experience. Delanie is very alert for a newborn. Several nurses made comments about her awareness, but considering she baked for two extra weeks, maybe it isn't a huge surprise. Her eyes were open most of the day, looking at whoever was talking to her. She also has learned that she likes to suck on her fingers, a lot. And she can somewhat hold her head up on her own. She's quite the charmer also. But all through the day she was really putting on a show of being a perfect, quiet little baby. And then nighttime rolled around. Nighttime=Delanie's active time. Her Mommy and Daddy did not get very much sleep, until around 5 am. Delanie did not want to sleep very much during the night. Any time it looked like maybe she was quiet and content, she would perk back up and start crying again. Both Delanie and her parents have a strong learning curve ahead!

Welcome Delanie Ann Blatchford!
(Pronounced De-LAY-Nee) Born March 28, 2007 via emergency C-Section at 9:20 am. 9 lbs, 11 oz and 22 inches long! Very healthy, bright-eyed and alert! Mom, Delanie, and Dad are all doing wonderfully! We are at Rex Hospital, and visiting hours are noon-8pm, and we'd love for people to come meet Delanie!
Update 8:10am
We are progressing well, with Deanna having reached 6cm dilated around 7am. Her water has broken, and the epidural has been administered, so she is resting more comfortably now. Everything still looks good, and we will post again later.
March 28, 2007 5:25 am
Well, things have quickly changed for us! We are now checked in to the hospital with Deanna having contractions every 2 minutes or so. So far she has held off on her epidural cocktail, but that will change soon we're sure. The last time the nurse checked, she was dilated 4cm all on her own, which is a big improvement from earlier in the week. We will try to keep updating the blog as things progress!

41 Weeks
No, the title is NOT a typo...
Baby B is apparently very very comfortable in her lush accomodations. Dave and I feel a bit like hostage negotiators at this point - trying to tap into her mind to find that one weakness that will make her leave the premises without doing any harm...
I checked this morning, the World Record for longest pregnancy is 17 months, 11 days. I think I may be currently in second place...
Dave and I are hanging in there! We hope to deliver baby news soon!

Week 40
So, here we are, past our official due date, still no Baby B. The 9 month build up to this weekend has made dealing with the non-event a little difficult. We both hope we are blessed with the little one this week. The next doctor's appointment is Thursday, where they will run a few tests to ensure everything is still going well.
Work for me ended on Thursday - it was just too much to deal with the discomfort, the swelling and the mood swings and still try to do my job well. Now, Dave has the pleasure of these wonderful pregnancy symptoms. And post-due-date, I think all three have been heightened...
The plus side to being at home (alone) is that Dave and I spent the entire weekend on one long date. Neither of us wanted me to be alone for too long, plus we needed to do stuff to keep our minds off our disappointment. So, we had a great weekend together as a couple - the museum, hiking, restaurants, etc. We never try to pack so many activities into one weekend!
Thank you to everyone for the phone calls, we promise to send out the word as soon as possible!

Week 39
I can't believe our due date is a week away! We have spent the weekend staying close to home, spending lots of time either on the couch or up walking. We plan to do more of the same this week, with spring approaching and the time change, we will actually be able to walk after work.
I will most likely be working up until the big day, unless I can fanagle a doctor's note at my appointment this week. Or, I may decide to just start calling in sick and see if my boss challenges me. The prospect of 5 days of work this week is a bit daunting, though.
Baby B is still very healthy and still very comfortable in her temporary housing. She moves a great deal, even though there is very little room to move. I have had a few talks with her, letting her know that the real world is a wonderful place to reside, but I think she is very happy where she is for now.
We will call/email people if/when we go to the hospital. We are also planning to update this page from the hospital, so check back often!

Week 38
We are counting down the days now... every time I feel something I pause and try to see what the heck it classifies as - Movement? Cramp? Contraction? If you ask my doctor, she would say it's my imagination, as I have made very little progress so far.
Lil' Thumper continues to beat on my ribs like she wants to be a drummer - unless those are her feet, then maybe she is a future soccer player. Either way, I am nearly in tears driving down the road with my right arm stretched above my head while my left hand goes between steering wheel and pushing down on my belly. She's not getting that set of drums from her mother, that's for sure...
While we wait, we go about our normal routines, work, school, house. Last week was a busy one for Dave, as he tackles a project at work. And it was a difficult one for me, as I attempted to tackle some hard-headed parents. Dave played his first full round of golf (it was in the upper 60's yesterday) and still has clubs, so that is a good sign. I decided to spend the day baking - is this the Rachel Ray version of nesting??
We hope everyone is having a great week! We hope our little girl comes within the next two weeks!
